Frankie
Frankie has been Peter's Partners in Care home health aide for a year and a half, and each describes the other as a good friend. "I like to be with him," says Frankie. "He likes everybody, and everybody likes him. He's very smart. I learn a lot from him."
The feeling is utterly mutual. When asked what he's learned from Frankie, Peter says, "Compassion. I've learned to be very nice." He's also learning some Spanish from Frankie, a Puerto Rico native.
With Frankie to help him eat, shower, dress and manage other daily functions, Peter can live in his comfortable apartment rather than enter a nursing home, as his mother did when she was stricken with the same hereditary disease. With Frankie's assistance, Peter spends his days doing what he likes, which includes watching television, going to the gym in his building, ordering take-out meals and visiting with his sister.
